Elexon shuts down energy reporting service today

Elexon will deactivate its Balancing Mechanism Reporting Service today, replacing it with the new Insights Solution for more customisable energy market data

Elexon will deactivate its legacy Balancing Mechanism Reporting Service (BMRS) today at 11:59pm, replacing it with the new Insights Solution.

This new platform provides enhanced data visualisation, detailed analysis and customisation options, supported by over 200 high-performing APIs.

The Insights Solution offers a wide range of datasets, including electricity generation mix, demand statistics at five-minute intervals, interconnector flows and generation forecasts.

It also publishes detailed information on indicative Imbalance Settlement prices and serves as the portal for energy companies to disclose electricity infrastructure outages in compliance with REMIT rules.

Elexon Chief Executive Peter Stanley said: “Elexon is the custodian of the largest datasets available on the wholesale electricity market.

“Our data will play an essential role in supporting progress to net zero and the energy transition.

“Once the implementation of Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) is completed in December 2026 Elexon will be processing 12 billion half-hourly metering readings annually.”
