British Gas launches new energy saving offer for smart hot water tanks

British Gas and Mixergy have launched a new scheme where customers with Mixergy smart hot-water tanks can save £40 a year by heating water during off peak times

British Gas has partnered with Mixergy to introduce a new energy offer that rewards homeowners for heating their water during low peak times.

This initiative is the first of its kind in the UK and aims to support the national grid by encouraging the use of renewables.

Mixergy customers who sign up for a British Gas fixed-rate tariff and opt into Mixergy Extra will receive a £40 annual rebate, deducted from their energy bill.

Currently, over 70% of Mixergy customers participate in the Mixergy Hero programme to help manage grid congestion.

The new Mixergy Extra scheme will offer additional financial rewards for customers who allow British Gas to optimise their Mixergy tanks to heat water when local or national demand is lower.

John Evans, Commercial Director for British Gas said: “This offer supports our ambitions to decarbonise homes. The Mixergy smart hot water tank cylinder uses less energy to heat water faster which saves our customers money whilst also supporting grid demand.

“We wanted to encourage more of our customers to take up these benefits so are giving them an added incentive to switch and reduce cost and carbon.”
