Construction begins on 300MW Cellarhead battery energy storage project

A new 300 MW battery energy storage system at Cellarhead, West Midlands, will be connected to National Grid by end of 2026

Construction has commenced on a battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Cellarhead in the West Midlands, set to bolster the UK’s energy security.

With a capacity of 300MW, the BESS will connect to the National Grid’s Cellarhead substation, playing a crucial role in stabilising the electricity supply.

Sarens, a global leader in crane rental and heavy lifting, has been tasked with installing 54 sets of battery storage systems using advanced lifting equipment.
