Iberdrola advances €1bn offshore wind project

The energy giant has moved into the delivery phase for its €1 billion Windanker project in the German Baltic Sea

Iberdrola has made progress on its €1 billion (£850m) Windanker offshore wind project in Germany, moving into the delivery phase after finalizing supply chain contracts.

The project aims for full commissioning by 2026, generating 315MW of energy annually, enough for 315,000 homes.

During construction, it is predicted to create over 1200 jobs, collaborating with 130 suppliers across 22 countries and utilizing 20 vessels for project logistics.

Windanker forms part of Iberdrola’s global expansion in offshore wind, with €8.4 billion earmarked for projects between 2024 and 2026.

Ignacio Galán, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, said: “Offshore wind is a key technology for our clean energy growth in the years ahead, with all capacity from these projects secured via long term PPA contracts or supported by government mechanisms.”
