New home batteries boost Octopus platform

New batteries from SolarEdge will be integrated into Kraken Technologies, the energy platform behind Octopus Energy

Kraken Technologies and SolarEdge have announced a new partnership.

SolarEdge Home Battery systems will be integrated into Kraken’s platform, which powers Octopus Energy.

This integration will allow SolarEdge customers to charge their batteries with low cost, clean energy and sell energy back to the grid, all managed automatically by Kraken’s technology.

Octopus Energy customers in the UK and Texas, US will be the first to benefit from this partnership, gaining access to Octopus Energy’s ‘Intelligent Octopus’ tariffs.

These tariffs offer up to 50% lower rates for energy consumption and sales compared to standard tariffs.

SolarEdge systems globally will also join Kraken’s ‘Virtual Power Plant,’ which currently includes 1.1GW of domestic devices that help balance energy supply and demand.

This expansion will allow energy retailers using Kraken’s platform, such as E.ON, EDF, Tokyo Gas, Origin and Octopus Energy, to create smart tariffs for SolarEdge battery owners.

Zvi Lando, Chief Executive Officer, SolarEdge Technologies, commented: “As the world continues to transition towards net zero, these programs will be critical to ensuring a stable penetration of renewable energy into the grid network.”

Devrim Celal, Chief Executive Officer of Kraken, said: “The scale this brings will benefit our customers’ pockets and support the transition to a clean, sustainable energy system.”
