Planning consent has been given for the demolition of the turbine hall and electrical annexe at the Sizewell A site.
This is part of the decommissioning process for the nuclear power station, which has been closed since December 2006.
The two reactors were closed on 31st December 2006 after 40 years of producing low carbon electricity.
The demolition is expected to clear an area about the size of a football pitch by March 2025.
The work includes removing old equipment and recycling materials.
The land will be used for the planned Sizewell C nuclear reactor.
Wendy Heath, senior project manager explains: “This is one of the largest programmes of work Sizewell A has seen for many years. It will result in a major skyline change for the community.”
