The government has announced a record number of renewable energy projects following its latest auction round, aiming to support its target of delivering clean power by 2030.
A total of 131 new projects have been approved, including significant developments in onshore wind, solar and tidal energy, which together are expected to provide electricity to the equivalent of 11 million British homes.
This is the largest number of projects agreed in a single auction round, surpassing the 92 projects delivered in the previous auction.
The latest results represent a significant increase in offshore wind projects compared to 2023 when none were approved.
Nine new offshore wind contracts have been awarded, including Hornsea 3 and Hornsea 4 off the Yorkshire coast, which will be Europe’s largest and second largest wind farms once completed.
The increase in the number of projects follows a decision last month to raise the auction budget by 50%, the largest funding increase to date.
