North Tyneside business cuts energy bills by £300k

A North Tyneside business is set to save £300,000 on energy bills with the help of a local energy saving initiative

A North Tyneside business will save £300,000 on energy bills thanks to support from the Business Energy Saving Team (BEST).

BEST, a programme run by local councils including Newcastle City Council, provides businesses with advice and support to cut energy costs.

Norfran, a manufacturer based in North Shields, benefited from an energy audit provided by BEST.

The audit identified opportunities for savings, leading to the installation of more efficient electric furnaces.

Norfran received £16,640 in funding for two new furnaces, expected to reduce energy costs by over £130,000 per year.

The company also installed three additional furnaces, aiming to recover the investment within a year and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 361 tonnes annually.

North Tyneside Council’s Cabinet Member for the Climate Emergency, Councillor Sandra Graham, said: “With rising energy costs continuing to be a real challenge for local businesses, it’s great to see companies like Norfran taking action to seek alternative operating processes, cutting costs and hugely reducing their environmental impact.”

Councillor Marion Williams, Cabinet Member for a Sustainable City, Newcastle City Council said: “Projects like this not only help businesses to reduce their energy costs but they also play an important role in helping our region achieve its net zero targets.”
