A school in White City has launched a solar energy project, offering local residents the chance to invest.
The £110,000 initiative in Jack Tizard School has installed over 270 solar panels on the school’s roof, expected to cover more than a third of the school’s electricity needs and save around £2,000 annually on energy bills.
The project, managed by Hammersmith & Fulham Community Energy, allows residents to invest from £50 and earn returns.
The panels will be owned by the community, with the installation costing neither the school nor the council.
The project is anticipated to generate up to £20,000 for local community projects.
The scheme will open for investment in early 2025.
Hammersmith & Fulham Community Energy will maintain the panels for 20 years before donating them to the school, which will benefit from an additional five to ten years of use.
