Scotland to pay businesses £7m for green hydrogen projects

Scottish businesses can now apply for a share of £7 million in funding to support green hydrogen projects

The Scottish Government is offering up to £7 million in funding for green hydrogen projects across Scotland.

This funding will support the development of hydrogen production projects with capacities ranging from 5 to 400 megawatts.

The aim is to help these projects cover their development costs and advance hydrogen supply chain and storage solutions.

Organisations can apply for up to £2 million in match-funding through the scheme, which is managed by Scottish Enterprise.

The fund is part of a broader initiative to support hydrogen innovation and complements nearly £7 million previously allocated to 31 projects under the Hydrogen Innovation Scheme since 2023.

Acting Minister for Climate Action Alasdair Allan said: “Our energy sector, and the development of green hydrogen in particular, will play a crucial role in growing Scotland’s economy and delivering on our net zero targets.

“This is due to our capability to generate so much renewable energy which is crucial to the process of making green hydrogen.”
