EDF has partnered with EV charging company Pod Point to introduce a new bundle designed to make switching to electric vehicles (EVs) more affordable.
The “Pod Point Plug and Power” package combines a home EV charger with a specific electricity tariff, aiming to reduce the initial costs for drivers.
The package offers the Pod Point Solo 3S home charger for an initial payment of £499 – lower than the usual £1,099 price.
The remaining cost of the charger is then spread over two years and included in the electricity tariff.
The charger comes with a five-year warranty and standard installation.
The bundle includes a tariff priced at £2,139 per year for average EV drivers who use dual fuel at home.
This plan provides cheaper electricity rates overnight, with off-peak rates between 12am and 5am at 8.49p per kWh.
This period is suitable for charging both the car and home appliances, helping drivers reduce their electricity costs.
For the average driver, the Plug & Power bundle can save up to £538 a year compared to using petrol. It also offers a saving of £460 annually compared to charging at public EV charging points.
Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF said: “We’re always looking for ways to make sustainable choices more convenient and affordable, so this bundle is a great option for drivers to be able to make the switch to electric driving, with lower upfront costs.”
Melanie Lane, Chief Executive Officer at Pod Point, commented: “We’ve seen dedicated EV tariffs become a key consideration for drivers, as well as the need for a home charger that gives them great value, and so we integrated both elements and launched the Plug & Power bundle, making EV driving even easier and more affordable.”
