‘UK businesses pay more for electricity’

The average annual electricity spending for UK businesses has risen by 5.5%, from £5,160 to £5,446, according to a new report

UK businesses are spending more on electricity.

The latest Energy Barometer Report by POWWR shows that average annual spending increased from £5,160 to £5,446, a rise of 5.5%.

Businesses in North Wales pay £6,293 for energy, while those in London pay £4,626.

The report indicates that businesses could save an average of 6% by switching energy suppliers.

The data is based on nearly 400,000 data points across various business types, including small start-ups and large organisations.

The report notes that energy use increased by 4.1% this quarter.

The average UK business consumes almost 24MWh of energy each year. Businesses in Southern England use the most energy, at 26,562kWh, while London businesses use the least, at 20,808kWh.

The average contract length for UK businesses is 25 months, with some businesses locking in contracts up to two years before the start date.

The report suggests that while energy costs have increased, businesses may find savings by switching suppliers.
