Yorkshire’s largest solar farm set to power 20k UK homes goes live

Atrato Onsite Energy has launched Yorkshire's largest solar farm, a £39.4 million project with a capacity of 55MW that will supply clean energy to OVO customers

Atrato Onsite Energy has announced the opening of the biggest operational solar farm.

The £39.4 million solar farm, owned and developed by Atrato, is the company’s largest installation investment to date and has capacity of 55MW – enough clean energy to power over 20,000 homes.

The solar farm will provide OVO, one of the UK’s largest energy suppliers, with 49GWh of clean energy each year under a three-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

This initiative aligns with OVO’s commitment to becoming a zero-carbon business by 2035.

Recent data indicates that 64% of the public supports new investments in renewable energy.

The solar farm features over 93,000 bi-facial solar panels installed across approximately 166 acres.

The use of bi-facial modules is expected to enhance energy generation by around 5% compared to standard mono-facial panels.

Future plans include integrating a battery storage system to further strengthen the energy grid.
