Ssix towns and cities have been selected to host England’s first heat network zones, which are expected to provide significant benefits to businesses and building owners.
Heat network zones are designed to recycle excess heat from sources such as data centres and factories, enabling multiple buildings to share this resource.
This approach offers a cost-effective and efficient method of heating urban areas, ultimately reducing energy bills and carbon emissions.
The chosen locations for these zones are Leeds, Plymouth, Bristol, Stockport, Sheffield and two areas in London.
With an investment of £5.8 million in government funding, the development of these heat network zones is projected to start in 2026.
This initiative is anticipated to create tens of thousands of jobs in various sectors, including engineering, planning, manufacturing and construction.
