Renewable energy generation reached new milestones in Europe during the third quarter of 2024.
According to a report from Montel Analytics, Solar power set a quarterly record with 94TWh generated, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.
Germany, Italy and Spain were the largest contributors, producing 24.8TWh, 16.9TWh, and 9.7TWh of solar energy, respectively.
Wind power also saw significant output, reaching 104.7TWh, the highest recorded for a third quarter and the second-highest on record overall, with Germany, Britain, and Spain leading production.
Analysts note that the rise in renewable energy has led to a higher number of instances where day-ahead electricity prices dropped to zero or below, particularly in Finland, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands.
