British Gas reopens winter energy support fund

The British Gas Energy Trust has reopened applications for its Energy Support Fund, offering grants of up to £2,000 to eligible British Gas customers to help tackle energy debt

The British Gas Energy Trust has reopened its Energy Support Fund, offering grants of up to £2,000 to British Gas customers who need assistance with energy debt.

This independent charitable organisation, funded solely by British Gas, aims to support households facing rising energy costs as winter approaches.

The fund is available to British Gas customers with either credit or pre-payment meters.

In addition to the Energy Support Fund, the Trust’s Individuals and Families Fund is also open, providing similar assistance to both British Gas and non-British Gas customers to help manage energy debt.

A survey of 2,000 adults conducted by British Gas as part of its outreach programme with the Post Office found that 39% struggle with bills, though nearly half of those have not sought help.

Reasons for not seeking assistance included perceived ineligibility, stigma, and lack of information.
