ScottishPower has confirmed a £1 billion contract with Siemens Gamesa for the supply of turbines to its new East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm.
Located 33 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk, the East Anglia TWO project will see the installation of 64 SG 14-236 DD turbines.
These advanced turbines feature a rotor diameter of 236 metres, making them among the most powerful turbines deployed in the UK to date.
With a generating capacity of up to 960 megawatts (MW), East Anglia TWO will produce enough clean energy to power nearly one million homes.
The blades for these turbines, each measuring 115 metres, will be manufactured at Siemens Gamesa’s facility in Hull.
The factory now employs approximately 1,300 workers following a recent recruitment drive.
