UKPN’s DSO hits 2GW target

Assets like batteries, windfarms and ev charging stations now connected

UK Power Networks has reached a major milestone in energy flexibility connecting 2GW of power.

That’s from more than 100,000 live assets now registered on its Localflex trading platform, marking a significant step toward building a smarter, low-carbon grid across London, the South East and East of England.

The diverse range of assets includes electric vehicle smart chargers, batteries, renewable energy sources like solar and wind farms – and domestic and commercial energy management systems.

In the past year, UKPN dispatched 7.8GWh of flexibility, a seven-fold increase on the previous year, in doing so delivered £91 million in consumer benefits.

Flexible assets enable the system to adapt quickly, balancing electricity supply and demand and ensuring resilience as renewable generation grows.
