Homes and businesses in Devon are getting cleaner power from a green gas plant.
ENGIE’s Gorst Energy Plant has significantly increased its renewable gas and electricity output, benefitting locals in Exeter and East Devon.
A strategic investment following an agreement with the Local Planning Authority has maximised the efficiency of existing equipment.
This upgrade enabled the plant to process a greater volume and variety of feedstocks, boosting its renewable energy production without additional infrastructure.
As a result, the plant now supplies renewable electricity to 1,570 homes, up from 934, and renewable gas to 3,538 homes, an increase from 2,389.
Annual electricity output has grown from 3.3MWh to 5.6 MWh.
Key upgrades include a new dome installed on one of the plant’s primary tanks, enhancing its capacity to handle additional feedstocks and improve green gas production.
Stuart Rennie, Managing Director of ENGIE Renewable Gases UK, commented: “With expanded capacity at Gorst Energy, we are directly contributing to the decarbonisation of Exeter and East Devon, supporting even more homes and businesses with green energy.”
