England sees 10% rise in solar in Labour’s first six months

75,000 solar panel installations in second half of 2024 up by 7000

The installation of solar panels across England has surged by 10% since the Labour government took office, with nearly 75,000 installations in the second half of 2024.

That’s up from 68,000 earlier that year. Research from renewable energy accelerator iChoosr also shows a 15% rise in broader clean energy adoption, including heat pumps and battery storage.

This boost is attributed to government initiatives like the establishment of Great British Energy and ambitious solar adoption targets for 2030. Additionally, the ‘rooftop revolution’ plan incentivises builders and homeowners to integrate solar energy into properties.

George Frost, UK Country Manager at iChoosr, says: “Energy consumers across the UK are now more willing than ever to make the switch to renewable sources. Rising energy bills and an increased desire for more sustainable lifestyle options mean UK households are looking for more energy-efficient ways to power their homes.”

The study has also revealed the top regional green energy champions of 2024 based on overall renewable energy adoption across the year, including heat pumps, battery and solar panel installations. They were:

Green Energy Champions 2024**

1. Maldon, Essex

2. Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

3. East Lindsey, Lincolnshire

4. South Hams, Devon

5. Winchester, Hampshire

Maldon in Essex, South Hams on the South coast of Devon and the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire were also the top three areas with the highest concentration of solar installations across 2024 as a whole.
