Boots has expanded its popular blister pack recycling scheme nationwide, offering customers the opportunity to recycle their empty medicine and vitamin blister packs at over 800 stores across the UK.
Following a successful pilot in London and the South East, where 170,000 customers signed up, the scheme now allows all Boots Advantage Card members to earn 100 points (worth £1) for every five empty blister packs they recycle, provided they spend £5 or more in-store.
Blister packs, commonly used for medicines and vitamins, are typically made of plastic and foil, making them difficult to recycle through regular household collections.
To tackle this issue, Boots has partnered with technology provider Metrisk and recycling specialist MYGroup to ensure the materials are repurposed into playground equipment, furniture and other sustainable products.
Candice Smith, Head of ESG at Boots, said: “We know from our pilot scheme that people want a recycling solution for their empty blister packs, which is why we’re now making it available in towns and cities across the country.”
To participate, customers need to register via the Recycle at Boots App, log their empty blister packs, and scan the QR code at a participating store when making a deposit.
Customers can handover other hard-to-recycle beauty and health products too.
