Scottish engineers tune up turbines!

New software ups wind turbine efficiency and energy output without needing redesigned blades

A couple of engineers from Scotland have found a way to increase the efficiency of wind turbines without having to redesign them.

Reoptimize Systems’s software improves turbine performance by an average of 2.3%, boosting energy production without requiring hardware modifications.

With more than 400,000 turbines worldwide, Reoptimize Systems sees a potential £1.5 billion recurring revenue opportunity from optimising turbine efficiency.

By fine-tuning turbine power curves remotely, the technology reduces downtime, minimises mechanical stress and extends operational lifespan — all without on-site intervention.

While modern turbines should convert 42% of wind energy into electricity, actual conversion rates are below 35%. Reoptimize Systems’ technology helps bridge this gap.

Board Chair Dr Mike Anderson said: “Our technology enhances turbine efficiency, contributing significantly to the renewable energy transition. The potential for global impact is immense, making this an exciting opportunity for both the industry and investors.”

With six pilot projects successfully operating across five countries, the technology is positioned to support wind farm owners in maximising profitability while advancing net zero targets.
