A Scottish port is getting big investment to gear up for offshore wind expansion.
Public cash is earmarked for redeveloping the Port of Nigg near the Cromaty Firth, after Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) approved £10 million to support the port’s Inner East Quay expansion.
The project, subject to formal approval, will create a new heavy-duty quayside and introduce roll-on roll-off capability.
It is expected to enhance the port’s capacity, attracting investment and supporting Scotland’s growing offshore wind sector.
This investment is part of the Scottish Government’s commitment to strategically invest up to £500 million over five years to anchor the offshore wind supply chain.
Recognised as a prime location for manufacturing and assembling offshore wind components, the Port of Nigg has already facilitated over 3.5GW of wind assets.
Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes said: “An investment of this nature sends a clear signal to investors that Scotland is open for business. Given its location and being part of Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, the Port of Nigg is strategically important to the offshore wind sector.”
