The good folk of Nottingham have got EVs in their sights, leading the way on electric car ownership.
Nottingham is set to see the biggest increase in EV ownership, with 21% of drivers planning to go electric when they next change cars.
That’s according to research by Motorpoin, which has revealed the UK cities most open to electric vehicles. The study highlights the regions where drivers are most likely to embrace EVs, as the UK government ramps up charging infrastructure and international EV brands enter the market.
Nottingham tops the list of the top five cities with the highest number of people willing to get an EV:
- Nottingham
- Bristol = London
- Belfast
- Newcastle
Despite growing enthusiasm, home charging remains the biggest hurdle to EV adoption. Motorpoint found that 72% of petrol and diesel drivers lack access to home charging, with 37% citing installation costs as too expensive.
Almost half (45%) believe there should be more financial support to install home charging points.
Motorists in Glasgow and Newcastle were the most confident in EVs being the future, with support 7% above the national average.
The top five cities that believe EVs are the future are:
- Glasgow
- Newcastle
- London
- Sheffield
- Birmingham

The study also found that all surveyed EV owners plan to stick with electric for their next vehicle.
Mike Vousden, EV expert at Motorpoint, said: “It’s great to see more UK motorists considering EVs. However, home charging is the most cost-effective way to own an EV and lack of infrastructure remains a key barrier, especially in cities where off-road parking is limited.”
