Real time GHG monitoring tool developed

New device can offer real time emissions tracking and legitimise carbon reporting

A new tool could transform the carbon credit market by providing real-time, accurate data on emissions and removals.

Hyphen Global AG has launched a breakthrough module that allows direct measurement of greenhouse gas emissions using on-site atmospheric monitoring.

Until now, carbon credits have been based on estimates using standard calculations – but this new technology provides continuous, real-time data on CO2, methane and nitrous oxide levels.

Developed with the Social Carbon Foundation, the module replaces guesswork with actual recorded emissions, ensuring projects accurately track the greenhouse gases they capture or reduce.

This means carbon credits linked to agriculture and nature-based projects could become more valuable, as they will be backed by precise data rather than projections.

Maxx Dilley, Director of Atmospheric Monitoring Services at Hyphen Global, said: “This is our industry’s tipping point – we can now offer the market a verification system based on atmospheric measurements and hard data. This will lead to improved transparency and confidence, increasing trust and thereby increased investment in voluntary carbon markets.”

Hyphen Global says the open-source tool is available for all carbon projects and verification providers, helping to improve transparency and trust in the voluntary carbon market.

The company will work with project developers globally to implement the system, ensuring the true value of natural carbon sinks is recognised and rewarded.

Mike Davies, CEO of Social Carbon added: “This module has the potential to transform monitoring of natural climate solutions, tracking entire ecosystem GHG fluxes rather than focus on specific carbon pools.

“We are now moving into an era of rigorous governance and trust; we believe this Module is a vital step in this journey and we are excited to see its implications realised in the months and years to come.”
