Velux cuts emissions further and steps up on circularity and biodiversity

The company slashed operational emissions by 60% since 2020 and is driving circularity forward

Velux has made another major step towards its sustainability goals, cutting emissions from its own operations by 11% in 2024.

That brings its total reduction to 60% since 2020, according to the company’s latest sustainability report.

The drop, from 52kt CO2e in 2020 to 21kt CO2e last year, is largely due to a shift to renewable energy and improved energy efficiency at production sites.

Velux is also pushing to cut emissions across its supply chain, signing a ten-year deal with steelmaker ArcelorMittal for lower-carbon steel.

Beyond emissions, the company is focusing on circularity and biodiversity. It launched four pilot projects in different markets to explore take-back schemes, refurbishment and maintenance services.

“Next step will be to focus on how to implement circularity across our business – from the product design all the way to end of use – and most importantly, to do this together with our customers,” said CEO Lars Petersson.

On biodiversity, Velux developed a new assessment method to measure the impact of its sites and has begun implementing local ecosystem improvements in Denmark, Poland, Italy and Hungary.
