Government urged to make bold choices for energy transition

Energy UK's chief emphasises that the government needs to focus on policies across the entire energy sector to address customer concerns and ensure the energy transition benefits everyone

Emma Pinchbeck, Chief Executive of Energy UK, will call for the government to make bold decisions at today’s industry conference.

Ms Pinchbeck will stress that to achieve the goals for homegrown energy, the government must focus on policies affecting the entire energy sector and address customer needs.

The conference, titled “Energy Matters: Securing Britain’s Future”, will feature speeches from Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and Shadow Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho, Ofgem’s Chief Executive Jonathan Brearley and Fintan Slye, Executive Director at ESO.

Emma Pinchbeck said: “The new government has wasted no time in stressing how central clean energy is to its ambitions.

“Meeting these aspirations and securing a future powered by clean homegrown energy relies on bold choices and critical decisions being made today – and that goes beyond just power generation.

“It means a similar focus on policies and actions across the whole energy sector which have a direct effect on customers’ lives – and crucially showing how we understand their concerns and the importance of an energy transition that delivers tangible benefits for people across the country.”
