Green light given for new wind farm in South Wales

Thrive Renewables has acquired the rights to build the Abergorki wind farm in South Wales, with construction set to begin in 2025

Thrive Renewables has acquired the rights to develop the Abergorki wind farm in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales.

The project, which will have three turbines and a capacity of 13.5MW, is expected to start construction in Spring 2025 and begin operations in 2026.

It is projected to produce up to 40GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 12,349 homes.

The Abergorki wind farm is part of the UK Government’s Contract for Difference scheme, securing a contract in Auction Round 6 (AR6).

The site is situated on Mynydd Maerdy, an area with existing and planned wind farms.

Monika Paplaczyk, Investment Director, Thrive Renewables said: “Wales has great natural wind resources, with 1.2GW of onshore wind currently in operation and more under development.

“The Welsh government has ambitions for renewables to supply 100% of the country’s electricity needs by 2035, so we’re really excited to be moving this project forward to deliver cleaner, cheaper electricity for homes and businesses.”
