Energy firms and Scotland plan social tariff

The Scottish Government is collaborating with energy companies, including E.ON and EDF Energy, to create a social tariff to lower fuel bills for vulnerable customers

Energy suppliers are collaborating with the Scottish Government to create a social tariff to reduce energy costs for vulnerable households.

This partnership includes major firms such as E.ON, EDF Energy and Scottish Gas (Centrica), along with consumer advocacy groups, all working within a newly formed group to design the tariff for those in need.

The initiative follows a recent roundtable discussion led by Alasdair Allan, Scotland’s climate action minister, who emphasised the government’s commitment to establishing a social tariff for individuals facing significant energy expenses.

“It’s great news therefore that the energy suppliers and consumer organisations have agreed to work with us on this,” he stated.

Mr Allan noted that while progress is being made, further steps are required before the social tariff can be implemented.
