Major £8m power supply upgrade in Southampton

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has completed a key milestone in its £8 million project to enhance the power supply for 7,500 homes and businesses in Southampton

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has reached a milestone in its £8 million project to improve the power supply for homes and businesses in Southampton.

The design and construction phase of the first transformer has been completed, allowing the upgraded infrastructure in North Baddesley to be energised soon.

This project will benefit around 7,500 homes and businesses by making connections more reliable and increasing capacity.

SSEN is working with the Freedom Group of Companies Ltd as the design and build contractor.

The upgrade will take place in stages over the next fourteen months.

Another transformer will be rebuilt, and five kilometres of overhead power lines will be moved underground.

Once completed, the project will help protect against severe weather, reduce the risk of power cuts, and support more low carbon technologies like heat pumps and electric vehicles.
