Former government adviser appointed COO for massive UK-Morocco power link

Samantha Harrison, a former government adviser, has been appointed Chief Operations Officer of Xlinks, a renewable energy firm working on a project to link the UK and Morocco through a power transmission system

Samantha Harrison, a former government adviser, has taken on the role of Chief Operations Officer at Xlinks.

The company is leading a significant project to connect the UK and Morocco through a power transmission system.

This initiative aims to deliver renewable energy from Morocco to the UK using a 4,000-kilometre subsea cable, which will transport electricity generated from solar and wind sources.

The Advisory Committee on Business Appointments reviewed Ms Harrison’s appointment and found minimal risk of conflict.

Samantha Harrison has previously served as an Expert Adviser at the Department of Health and Social Care and as Interim Permanent Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at Number 10.

The committee noted that she did not have prior dealings with Xlinks or the energy sector during her time in government.

To address any potential concerns, specific conditions have been set regarding her interactions with government entities and the use of information obtained during her previous role.
