The Energy Networks Association (ENA) has launched a winter campaign to help UK households prepare for possible power cuts.
The campaign focuses on three steps: “prepare, care, share.”
The goal is to help people know what to do if power is lost during the winter months.
As part of the campaign, the ENA encourages people to sign up for the Priority Services Register.
This service is for households with young children, older adults, those with medical conditions, or others who may need extra support.
While the service cannot prevent power cuts, it aims to offer more information and help during planned work or unexpected outages.
The “prepare” step includes advice on making a plan in case of a power cut.
People are encouraged to keep mobile phones charged and to report power issues online or by calling the free emergency number, 105.
The PowerCut105 website has more tips.
The “care” step focuses on checking in with neighbours, friends, and family who may need help during a power cut.
The ENA advises signing up for the Priority Services Register if eligible, which can be done through energy suppliers or network operators.
The “share” step involves passing on this information.
The campaign encourages people to use social media and other methods to share advice so that more households are ready for winter.
Energy Minister Michael Shanks said: “As we enter the winter months, we are working closely with operators to ensure they continue to have plans in place to minimise disruption and support customers in event of power cuts from storms and other faults.”
