HiiROC, a UK-based clean hydrogen producer, has partnered with Siemens to enhance the automation and scalability of its hydrogen production process.
The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate Siemens’ advanced control technology and automation expertise into HiiROC’s Thermal Plasma Electrolysis (TPE) technology, a low carbon method for producing hydrogen.
HiiROC’s TPE technology generates hydrogen by breaking down gaseous hydrocarbons into hydrogen and solid carbon without creating carbon dioxide emissions.
The process requires significantly less electricity than traditional water electrolysis methods, consuming only a fifth of the energy and reducing the environmental impact of hydrogen production.
Recognised under the UK’s Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard, TPE offers a solution for producing clean hydrogen at the point of use, which minimises costs associated with storage and transportation.
Through this partnership, Siemens will provide HiiROC with advanced automation tools and control solutions that ensure the efficient and safe scaling of hydrogen production.
Siemens’ expertise in factory automation and its focus on cybersecurity and software development are expected to play a crucial role in supporting HiiROC’s goal of making hydrogen an economically viable fuel source for widespread commercial use.
